Sixteen full suits in four sizes for the jousters. Eight kits for the horses. Thirteen weeks from drawing board to filming. Yeah, you could say it was intense.
In July of 2011, Anshelm Arms joined forces with Pilgrim Films and the History Channel to produce all the armor for the new reality TV series “Full Metal Jousting”. Anshelm Arms has over 20 years experience making armor, but we’d never done anything quite like this.
The job required over 25 full sheets of steel, barrels of hardware (much of it customized after purchase), hundreds of cans of paint, an ocean of Diet Mountain Dew and a metric ton of BBQ.
While the shop was full of steel being sized and patterned, cut, formed, welded, edges rolled, welds ground, bugs worked out, polished, painted, strapped, and assembled, the office hummed away at all hours with near-constant communications, planning, scheduling, materials purchasing/tracking, bookkeeping…you get the idea.
It was a big job, and we completed it on time, and on budget.
We are very proud to have worked with Pilgrim Films and the History Channel, and to be an integral part of “Full Metal Jousting”.
