Bascinets The classic high-point bascinet was the most common helmet found in Europe throughout the fourteenth century. The oniontop was common in Germany. Hinge This can be added to any of our three basic bascinets to create a more interesting and period quick-disconnect for the grill and visor. This is not required for a grill/visor interchange. Pricing:
Vervelles Used to attach the aventail to the helmet. Made of cast brass. We have found that these are quite durable and hold up well to SCA combat. Can be purchased separately or we will install them on your Anshelm bascinet. Typically we install 12 (period examples had as many as 30). Pricing: Aventail Made in the USA of welded flat stainless steel links by Gordon Osterstrom (Master Knuut). Normally we supply our aventails fitted to Anshelm bascinets. This includes cutting-to fit around the back, around the face opening, and heavy cowhide whip-stitched onto the mail, for attaching it to the vervelles. Requires vervelles above. Pricing:
Brass Trim Decorative border for any of the above visors. Engraving can be added - anything from a simple geometric pattern to a personal motto. Pricing:
Finishing Touches Now that you have ordered your dream helmet, it would be a shame to stuff it full of duct tape and blue foam and stick a modern buckle on to hold that fancy visor closed, and risk drilling a hole in the wrong place. We offer a Visor strap with period buckle attached, chinstrap installation, and a fabric-covered foam-padded helmet lining. This includes drilling the lining attachment holes bordering the hemet edge. See our Accessories page for buckle styles. Pricing:
Sizing Measure the circumference of your head at eyebrow level and behind
the ears, Using the same line, measure diameter front-to-back and
side-to-side and distance from center of the eye to base of the chin.
